Hall of Gods Slot Review

For the ancient Norse, the dream of Valhalla was one that could not be ignored. A gathering of the best warriors, who will dine together and battle to prepare for Ragnarok – the world’s end. Overseen by the Allfather Odin and numerous other Norse deities, these warriors are trained to push back all evil. Those who prove themselves in battle will find themselves richly rewarded with not one, but three progressive jackpots!

There’s not much in the way of music outside of a small jingle when a win happens. Hall of Gods’ RTP is 95.3%, which is way below the current average. Great for 2010, but far from amazing almost a decade later. At least the special features are still just as fun as they always were. Expanding Wilds, free spins with a 3x multiplier, and a bonus game. That last one is the most important, as it gives you a shot at winning the above-mentioned progressive jackpots.

Obviously, the slot looks a bit dated compared to modern releases. But you can still tell a lot of effort was put into this game. The animations may repeat often, but they’re quite fluid. Not to mention that the background image would make a perfect desktop background. What surprised us most was the gameplay. Progressive jackpots are usually paired with tedious, grindy releases, but not here!

Here’s the Facts

Instead, Hall of Gods has a low to medium volatility. Wins aren’t spectacular, but they come frequently enough to keep you spinning. Of course, that just means your odds of winning big, or hitting one of the progressive jackpots is quite low. But the thrill of the chase is half the fun of these types of slots. It’s what makes that eventual win taste all the sweeter if it ever happens.

The coin range for this slot is set between ₹1.00 and ₹50.00 per spin. By adjusting their bet level and coin value, players are able to set their total bet to their liking. You can wager as little as ₹20, or you can stake ₹500 for each spin. Casual and mid-range gamblers will be quite happy with this bet spread, as it gives them lots of wagering options. Even high rollers will be pleased, as they have a shot at winning an ungodly amount of money.

The icon design holds up spectacularly, even after all these years. You can find oranges, pickaxes, amulets, hammers, rings and five Norse deities on the playing field. We’re not sure why, but Idun’s value is much lower compared to other gods you can find on the board. A large sea-serpent is the Wild, a hammer and shield is the Bonus, and a pair of crows are the Scatter symbol. The bonus is the most important, as it grants access to the three progressive jackpots.

Special Features

Expanding Wilds: Wilds can appear in all five positions. However, if they land on the second, third or fourth reel, they expand to cover that entire reel. They can substitute for all icons, except for Scatters and Bonus symbols.

Free Spins: Three, four or five Scatters grant ten, fifteen or twenty extra turns, respectively. During free spins, all wins are multiplied by 3x. Collecting three or more Scatters while the special feature is already active will award additional free spins.

Bonus Game: Collect three Bonus symbols on the third, fourth and fifth reel to activate this special feature. Click shields to reveal jackpot icons or coins. You can match three Mini, Midi or Mega Jackpot symbols to receive the corresponding progressive jackpot. Alternatively, if you match three coins first, you win a cash prize instead.

What’s our Take?

Despite its age, Hall of Gods still manages to look good. It won’t be competing for best graphics anytime soon, but it’s not an eyesore to play. We were pleasantly surprised to find such fluid animations in a slot this old. It just goes to show you that NetEnt was ahead of everyone else, even back then.

Gameplay is quite engaging, even without the progressive jackpots. The bonuses aren’t that frequent, but they can still provide a decent prize. The RTP is lower than we’d like, but it isn’t a huge problem.

This NetEnt release comes with our whole-hearted recommendation. Give it a spin or a few thousand. We assure you, you won’t be disappointed.
