Age of the Gods: King of Olympus Slot Review

We knew, sooner or later, we’d encounter Zeus on our adventure through the Age of the Gods series. After all, there’s no better known Greek deity than the lord of thunder himself! Zeus is the head honcho of Olympus, the place where all gods gather. He got his position as leader after he murdered his father, who had a habit of eating his own children. And if that sentence doesn’t explain why Greek mythology is absolutely metal, then we doubt anything else will.

The slot’s RTP ranges between 94.99% and 95.98%, which is just shy of the current average. The special feature should be familiar to anyone who’s played the Age of the Gods game. It’s essentially the same as the Zeus free spin from there. Only now, you start with a 2x multiplier and it increases every two spins instead of three. This Playtech release also offers four progressive jackpots, which are shared across all slots in the series.

Age of the Gods: King of Olympus is one of the better looking Playtech games. It shows the importance of great animations. Even the occasional flash of lightning from the Scatters was enough to reel us in. We’re a bit conflicted on the gameplay, however. We like that the developer went back to expand an existing bonus already associated with the deity. But we don’t like that it’s the only special feature, with the exception of the progressive jackpots.

Here’s the Facts

Medium variance is what the slot offers us, and we’ll admit, it works quite well. This game doesn’t have the raw value that Goddess of Wisdom or God of Storms do. To make up for that, it makes its less valuable wins more frequent. And since all three releases are relatively simple, your choice boils down to preference. If you like semi-frequent pays and bonus triggers, stick with King of Olympus. Otherwise, one of the other two we mentioned may be better suited.

Coins can be set between ₹1.00 and ₹40.00 for each spin. By adjusting their line bet, players are able to change their total stake, as well. You can wager as little as ₹25, or you can go all out and bet ₹1000 per spin! It’s not the best betting spread we have seen from Playtech, but it gets the job done.

While there’s no official split, there’s still a distinction between low, medium, and high value symbols. The low paying icons include the playing card royals, the Greek vase and the golden lute. Medium value symbols are the large ship, a massive eagle, and the pearly white Pegasus. Finally, the Zeus Wild is in a league of its own, as the sole high paying icon! His cash prize would probably be everyone’s focus, if not for the progressive jackpots.

Special Features

Free Spins: Three or more Scatters in any position will grant ten free spins. Gamblers begin with a 2x multiplier, which increases by one every two spins. This means by the final two spins, it will have grown to 6x! During free spins, there’s also a locked Wild present in the middle of the third reel. This Wild cannot be removed, and will only disappear after the bonus ends.

Progressive Jackpot: This special feature is randomly triggered. Once active, players are taken to a separate, 5x4 board full of golden coins. Click on a coin to reveal its colour: green, blue, pink or red. Each colour is connected to one of the four progressive jackpots this Playtech release offers. The first three coins of the same colour you match is the jackpot that will be awarded.

What’s our Take?

Graphically, it’s one of our favourites from the Age of the Gods series. The only real blunder King of Olympus has is the background image. The view of the mountains is scenic by itself. So why Playtech decided to mess it up by adding the weird reddish-yellow tint over said mountains, we’ll never know.

The basic idea behind this slot’s gameplay is similar to the super popular God of Storms. You only have one special feature apart from the progressive jackpots, and you have to use it to its full potential. But where God of Storms makes its free spins rare, this game goes for lots of triggers. Which leads to many free spins which don’t award any decent cash prizes. But when Zeus is feeling generous? You can win, and you can win big!
