Age of the Gods: Prince of Olympus Slot Review

Considering how much of a man-whore Zeus is, odds are the title Prince of Olympus is held by half of Greece! Of course, some royal claims are more respected than others. Such was the case of the great hero Hercules, who’s the face of this slot. He went through life being the great hero Greece needed him to be! He killed monsters, recovered precious treasures, and even captured many of the creatures he was supposed to kill. But he still couldn’t figure out pants. Weird guy.

Age of the Gods: Prince of Olympus’ RTP is somewhere between 93.83% and 94.82%. No matter which way you slice, that’s less than the current average of 96%. It offers multiple interesting special features, too. The bonuses include the Hydra special feature, free spins, and the Herculean Strength re-spins. Finally, players are also treated to not one, but four progressive jackpots!

This game has one of the best looking background images Playtech's ever made. Which is a shame, because we can barely make it out because of the reels. The paytable is transparent so you can gawk at the massive city. Why not make the reels the same way? Gameplay is reliant on special features to keep it interesting. Unless you like chasing bonuses, you won’t have fun playing this release.

Here’s the Facts

Prince of Olympus has a medium-high volatility, carefully balancing between the two. It seems to lean towards high more than it does medium, but it’s not fully committed. The cash prizes it offers are more than worthy of the high variance title, don’t get us wrong. But gameplay isn’t tedious enough to count! Wins and special features are semi-frequent, just how we like them.

You can change your coin value between ₹1.00 and ₹1000.00 for each spin. By changing their bet per line and number of active paylines, gamblers are able to adjust their total stake. You can wager between ₹1 and ₹25000 per spin. That said, we advise against turning off paylines. It lowers your odds of winning, which is the exact opposite of what you want to do!

Symbol design is quite well done, thematically. Apart from the filler playing card royals, every other icon fits the theme. Whether it’s a treasure Hercules recovered, a beast he defeated, or his trusted ‘tools of the trade’. This slot offers it all! Including four progressive jackpots if the regular maximum cash prize isn’t enough for your appetite.

Special Features

Hydra: If the Hydra symbol appears on the first and fifth reel, it teleports the player to fight a massive hydra. Cut down their heads to get the cash prizes hidden within! At the end of the bonus, pick a severed head to win a multiplier. If Hercules Rage fires, all hydra heads are destroyed.

Free Spins: Collect three or more Scatters to win 10 free spins with a 3x multiplier. You can also retrigger free spins by repeating this motion while extra turns are being played. Herculean strength can be triggered during free spins.

Herculean Strength: There are two versions of this special feature. They are as follows:

  • If Hercules appears on the centre of the third reel, a Wild will expand to cover that reel. The Wild reel will remain in place while two more re-spins are played.
  • If Hercules appears on the second, third and fourth reel at once, it would give us Wild expansions on those positions! This also grants just one re-spin with sticky expanding Wilds.

Progressive Jackpot: There are four progressive jackpots just awaiting a lucky gambler to take them home! This special feature is triggered randomly. Once active, you are taken to a 5x4 board. Collect three coins with the same colour to get one of the four progressive jackpots.

What’s our Take?

Like so many Playtech slots, there’s a distinct absence of cool animations. The background image was quite cool, as is the occasional appearance of the Prince of Olympus via special features. However, this game is already lagging behind compared to some NetEnt releases from the same year.

Gameplay feels similar to many other Age of the Gods slots from this series. And while it gives off a bad first impression with the low RTP, the special features more than make up for that. You’re given a decent variety, and each one has a chance to win big. Not as big as the progressive jackpot, but we’ll take what we can get.
