Age of the Gods: Furious Four Slot Review

Despite releasing very close to the regular Age of the Gods, this slot was never as popular. Don’t get us wrong, there’s still people who loyally play it to this day. Us included! But it simply lacked the same impact. The four gods that share screen time here aren’t nearly as recognisable as Zeus or Poseidon are. Today, we’re hoping to show you another cool game that’s part of the Age of the Gods series. So if you dare open Pandora’s box, join us!

Playtech’s release has an RTP of 94.88%, which is below the current average, and a little too low for our liking. Fortunately, Age of the Gods: Furious Four brings a whole heap of bonuses to make up for it! There’s four special features, but they’re all locked behind the free spins round. You’ll have to win that one first before you can make use of stacked Wilds, increasing multipliers and sticky symbols! Oh, and did we mention the four progressive jackpots?

Graphics are good, but they’re nothing special. They were okay even back in 2016, when the slot was first released. Now, several years down the line? It is eye-catching, but for all the wrong reasons. Fortunately, the gameplay is rock solid! Locking all the extra special features behind free spins seems like a bad idea at first. But thanks to that, each round of bonus turns is different, and has multiple ways of netting a big win!

Here’s the Facts

This game sports a medium-high variance, like many others in the series. It’s almost perfectly tuned, in our opinion. While you get lots of small wins, feature activations are rare. So when you finally do activate free spins, you learn to appreciate it all the more! Doubly so when all the stars align, and the Greek gods shower you with bonuses, extending the initial special feature.

Coins are still a thing, as much as we wish they weren’t. You can stake between ₹1.00 and ₹500.00 on each spin. By changing their line bet and number of active paylines, players are able to adjust their total stake, too. So you can wager as little as ₹1, or you can go wild and bet ₹10000 per spin! This is a fantastic betting spread, which will please casual gamblers and high rollers alike.

Available icons are split into higher and lower paying tiers. Low value symbols include playing card royals: 9, 10, J, Q, K and A. They’re decorated to look like Greek letters, so we can commend Playtech for trying to get them to fit into this release. The high value icons are Atlas, Prometheus, Pandora and Atlas, who make up the Furious Four. And while they can grant some cool jackpots, they’re nothing compared to the four progressive jackpots.

Special Features

Free Spins: Collect three or more Scatters in any position to win 12 extra turns. During this bonus, there’s a chance one of the four extra special features will activate. This happens when one of the four gods appears fully stacked on the third reel, while free spins are playing.

  • Age of Light: Four free spins are played. Apollo becomes a full-reel Wild which can substitute for all symbols except Wilds and Scatters.
  • Age of Curiosity: Four extra turns are played. Each time Pandora appears, your multiplier increases by 1x.
  • Age of Fire: Four free spins are played. The first reel is covered by sticky Prometheus icons. The symbols also have a greater chance of appearing on other reels.
  • Age of Endurance: Three extra turns are played. Atlas becomes a Wild and becomes sticky. This ends when the Age of Endurance runs out.

Progressive Jackpot: This bonus is activated randomly. Players are taken to a separate 5x4 screen with 20 gold coins. Each time a coin is revealed, it will show a colour. Each colour matches with one of the four progressive jackpots. Reveal coins until you collect three coins of a single colour. The progressive jackpot with the matching colour will be awarded to the gambler.

What’s our Take?

Playtech’s slots were never the best looking on the market. This isn’t a bad thing when you play them while they’re current. But if you come back to an older game? It causes some troubles. It’s not unplayable, mind you. But if you’re used to something like NetEnt, it takes some getting used to.

Gameplay will be hit or miss, depending on the preferences of the online casino player. Triggering one special feature, to then hunt down more bonuses can feel annoying at times. But the massive prizes at the end make it worth a bit of tedious grinding.
